As many know, I had been toiling away on my latest book for a little less than a year. Well, the book was finally released into the wild early this year (Jan 2nd). Published by renowned technology publisher O’Reilly Media and co-authored by Jeff Siarto (http://www.siarto.com), Head First Web Design is the latest [...]

Cultural Anthropologist Explains Web 2.0

I recently ran across a wonderful little digital video that takes an extremely creative approach to explaining Web 2.0 (and how we got from Web 1.0 to Web 2.0).  The whole concept of Web 2.0 is very slippery – and its very nature is a bone of contention for many of those who inhabit the [...]

Web 2.0 Logo Re-Designs…

The Web 2.0 movement has been accused (rightly so) of a very recognizable and stereotypical kinds of visual design.  Rounded everything, bright colors, large fonts, liquid reflective logos…you know what I’m talking about.  So, when this showed up on digg, I just had to laugh (http://flickr.com/photos/gtmcknight/198311028/)

Well, after months of speculation (nay, years) Apple has announced the iPhone. The kicker is that its not only a slick phone, but an iPod and OSX running computer-ish thingy. On top of that, its full touchscreen. Its damn near the shiniest thing that I’ve ever seen.

The UI is typical Apple beautiful…visually [...]

The requirements are light weight – all you need is PHP and a mySQL database. Installation is simple – just a matter of uploading the files, and then pointing your [...]

For those who don’t know, A List Apart (http://www.alistapart.com) is an online mag that explores the design, development, and meaning of web content, with a special focus on techniques and benefits of designing with web standards.  A while back the site went completely dark…no updates at all.  Apparently, they’ve reappeared with a completely new and [...]

http://www.csl.sony.co.jp/person/rekimoto/datatile/
Sony Computer Science Labs in Japan has created an interesting interactive system that merges both graphical and physical interaction.  The DataTiles system employs transparent tiles as modular units in the physical portion of the interface. These tiles are augmented by dynamic graphical information when they are placed on a sensor-enhanced flat panel display. They can [...]

Earlier this week I attended an online Macromedia seminar discussing the applications of Breeze within educational institutions.  Since its release, I’ve been fairly intrigued with Breeze as a way to possibly extend and enhance traditional classroom instruction and interaction.  As a result, I was excited to attend teh seminar.  Here is what I learned.
Breeze is [...]
